22-MAY-2000 -- Due to the loss of Mars Polar Lander (MPL), the launch
of the Mars Surveyor 2001 Lander was postponed until 2003 while NASA considered
all options. The decision has now been made to cancel the Lander portion
of the Mars Surveyor 2001 mission. The Orbiter
portion of the mission will proceed as planned.
